Jon Loudermilk, GCE's Primary Firearms Instructor is a retired police investigator with over 20 years credited service. His training includes firearms certifications from the NRA, New York State Division Of Municipal Police and the United States Department Of Justice Federal Bureau Investigations. Jon has served as a Primary Tactical Firearms Instructor and Tactical Team Leader along with service in Dignatary Protection during his governmental career. His expertise and dedication to training has helped countless shooters how to exercise their freedoms safely and responsibly.
Some of these courses are required by many jurisdictions as a condition of gun ownership In New York State. Please check with your local Sheriff's Department Pistol Permit Bureau.

GCE Advanced Defensive Pistol is a 10 hour course designed to provide the beginner and experienced pistol shooter alike with a higher level of training in the use of the pistol as a combat weapon and the opportunity to practice advanced skills in a safe, supervised environment. If you want to learn advanced pistol skills and shoot them in a live fire scenario, this is the course for you.
This course introduces a detailed discussion of the combat mindset necessary to survive a life threatening encounter. The primary focus of this class is to establish ultra high quality gun-handling skills and dramatically increase your ability to get accurate shots on target quickly.
After a review of handgun safety rules and basic pistol skills, the course will provide training in various shooting techniques including close quarters combat shooting, shooting on the move and shooting from various positions.
Other topics covered in detail will include administrative & combat tactical reloading. Dynamic and malfunction clearances in an active shooting situation will also be addressed. We will also explore in detail how to engage multiple targets, target prioritization, hostage/bystander target situation and speed-on-target drills. You'll also experience shooting from cover and concealment, partner drills and omni-directional awareness necessary to survive real-life shooting situations.
The course is 10 hours in length and participants must possess a valid New York State Pistol Permit. Course prerequisite includes completion of The NRA
10-hour Basic Pistol Safety Certification or prior permission of the Primary Firearms Instructor.
Required equipment includes eye and ear protection, an appropriate firearm, a quality, strong-side holster (no fanny packs, belly bands, shoulder or small-of-back holsters), a minimum of two spare magazines or speed-loaders, an appropriate magazine carrier, and at least 500 rounds of ammunition. It is strongly recommended that you also wear a rimmed hat, long pants, comfortable shoes or boots and a sturdy belt that will support the weight of your handgun and other gear. Knee pads are also recommended for enhanced personal comfort.
